Deliflor is one of the largest chrysanthemum breeders worldwide. The Deliflor assortment consists of spray chrysanthemums, disbudded chrysanthemums and Santinis and includes more than 200 different cultivars. The company produces cuttings and issues licences for cut flower production.
At Deliflor, new varieties have to meet stringent requirements. They have to be for example, surprising in colour and shape but also free of diseases, have a long shelf life and efficient to produce. During the breeding process, new varieties are continuously submitted to tests in flower trials and further selected on the basis of cultivation and market technical qualities. This does not just take place in the Netherlands but also locally in Southern Europe, South America and Asia because different growing conditions do demand different variety-specific qualities.
Deliflor cuttings production takes place at production locations in Ethiopia and Uganda. All locations are managed by Dutch managers that consider corporate social responsibility of paramount importance. The fresh cutting material is flown to the Netherlands or immediately sent on to buyers all over the world. For phytosanitary reasons, the starting material destined for South America is produced locally from in-vitro material. The plant cuttings meet stringent phytosanitary requirements and are submitted to strict quality inspections several times during the entire production process. The cuttings are tested on uniformity, vigour, pests and diseases and so on.
Customers in the Netherlands and Europe can choose to have cuttings rooted by Deliflor. In doing so, the company strives to achieve the highest possible degree of uniformity and cuttings are stuck to order so as to deliver the material "just in time" and as fresh as possible. The cuttings are rooted under ideal conditions, such as a high level of lighting and in a modern rooting greenhouse.
Deliflor is constantly on the look out for ways of providing its chrysanthemums with an even stronger market position. Therefore, there is a lot of attention to marketing and promotion. Promotional campaigns are developed in cooperation with growers and traders worldwide, in order to increase the success rate of new varieties. Furthermore, Deliflor is often present at prominent flower shows and regularly organizes workshops and demonstrations at wholesalers and importers in its main sales countries.
