Deliflor had its own test facility built at its Japan branch. On the 12 of October 2012, the new premises were officially opened by Peter Persoon, Managing Director of Deliflor, together with Kazunori Kikuchi, Manager of Deliflor Japan. Various business relationships from the area were present at this special occasion and of course, they also wanted to see the first chrysanthemum trials for themselves.
Last January saw the start of the construction of this test facility, which consists of two departments that measure around 1,500m2 in total. It is a high-tech greenhouse that allows cultivation under extreme Japanese conditions. In week 25, the first chrysanthemums were planted here. This new facility is located in the north of Hamamatsu City, about 250 km southwest of Tokyo. This region offers ideal conditions for testing varieties on heat and cold tolerance. This location also offers excellent conditions for testing Deliflor varieties that are intended for cultivation in Mediterranean climates worldwide on their cultivation qualities.
The first trial results achieved in this new greenhouse were positive already and in the future, Deliflor expects to be able to gather valuable data, which will assist further advances in breeding and sales.
Through this international development, Deliflor has further extended one of its major links with regard to breeding activities. Combined with sales offices, test locations are in place in the main cut chrysanthemum production and sales areas, namely the Netherlands for Europe, Japan for Asia and Colombia for the American market. This means that Deliflor currently has the capacity to further develop new and improved varieties for all climatic zones and for existing as well as new markets; chrysanthemum growers and traders will be able to reap the benefits from this development.
